BOSCOSCURO is in a privileged position to get to know the evocative beauty of a landscape unique in the world, created by the work of man and by the continuous environmental changes due to the volcanic nature of the place.
A place from which lovers of (easy) trekking can set off to explore and learn about the millenary history and nature of this part of Etna.
WALKS IN THE WOODS
BOSCOSCURO is surrounded by over 10 km of paths that cross its magnificent forest of oaks, holm oaks and chestnuts.
After breakfast or before sunset you can walk in the shade of ancient trees and enjoy a serene, wonderful and rare nature.
THE ROCK GARDEN
DISTANCE FROM THE STRUCTURE 500 MT.
A large area of the forest is characterized by the presence of extraordinary lava outcrops probably caused by the collapse of numerous caves in prehistoric times.
Pinnacles, spiers, blades of rock, lava flow channels, twisted stones with the shapes of mythological animals are today the petrified memory of a distant era in which this part of Etna was the scene of continuous and spectacular eruptions.
THE CATANESE CAVE
DISTANCE FROM THE STRUCTURE 1 KM.
This cave, around which many legends were born, represents the largest lava flow channel of Etna with a height of over 13 meters (higher than a 4-storey building) and over 10 meters wide.
The back wall of the main room has ropes and sheets of consolidated lava on which it is easy to climb up to reach a niche placed at the height of the ceiling from which the environment is dominated.
From this first large room the cave continues with a tunnel about 70 meters long. where human bones and ancient ceramic fragments were found.
MONTE ARSO (Burned Mount)
DISTANCE FROM THE STRUCTURE 800 MT - HEIGHT 1100 MT.
Monte Arso is an old crater from 500 BC.
After an easy climb along a short path, you reach its two peaks from which you can admire a double panorama: to the north,
the majestic Mount Etna; to the south, the valley of the Simeto river to the sea and the lake of Lentini.
